Department of Medicine 2 – Cardiology and Angiology / Transradial experts to meet in Erlangen
Werner-von-Siemens-Straße 50, 91052 Erlangen, Germany
The usual site of vascular access for coronary angiography or angioplasty is through the femoral artery, and the vast majority of coronary procedures are performed this way.
The transfemoral route is popular, as puncturing the accessible and large calibre of femoral arteries is relatively easy, and most coronary catheters are in fact preshaped to facilitate procedures performed from this route. In 1989, Dr. Lucien Campeau, Montreal, introduced transradial access for performing coronary angiography, and in 1993, Dr. Ferdinand Kiemeneij, Amsterdam, reported his experience with coronary angioplasty through the radial route.
The transradial route is now becoming increasingly popular, with the primary advantages of allowing earlier mobilisation of patients post procedure, and significantly less vascular complications when compared to transfemoral access.
In our meeting we would like to present the current best knowledge and practice about the transradial route. Together with world experts in the transradial technique we will present an attractive program with lectures and live cases.
